The Brig Emma Ives

Description

The Emma Ives was launched in 1862 from the James Kitchin Shipyard at Three Mile House (Lyons Brook). The brig was built for William Ives of Pictou and captained by John Lorway from Ives & Company (according to a newspaper article of the time). In the fall of 1870, she was sold to S N Robinson of Dublin, Ireland.

William Ives and Christie Ann (Christian) Frasers daughter Emma was born about 1850 in Pictou, Nova Scotia. She had four brothers, George D, Charles, William and Daniel.

Emma Ives married Joseph Simpson Harris in 1881, son of William Henry Harris and Anna Arnison. Emma and Joseph lived on the corner of High Street and Patterson Street with their four sons, William H, Joseph Jr, George S, Daniel F, and three daughters, Maggie M, Christian and Mary G.

Emma Ives Harris died 26 July 1933. Joseph Simpson Harris died 7 May 1934. They are buried in the Haliburton Cemetery.
