"The Dayspring was a beautiful little vessel with two masts, [and] brigantine rigged. Her hull was painted white to resist the tropic heat. She sailed out of Halifax in 1863 with 17 souls abroad. She was bound for the mission field in the New Hebrides - more than seven thousand (7000) miles away."
The Dayspring was a brigantine built in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia by Carmichael Shipyard. It launched on August 18th, 1863. The hull was painted white with a golden band wrapped around it. The ship was 100 feet long, and 150 tons. She left Halifax November 7th, 1863 for the New Hebrides Islands in the South Pacific.
