Letter to the editor of the Eastern Chronicle, printed April 2, 1903 about Mrs. Alexander Douglas who died 27 March, 1903. 

Mr. Editor;-

The late Mrs. Alexander Douglas who died last week at the advanced aged of ninety one years was previous to her marriage Jane McLellan, daughter of Donald McLellan, McLellans Brook (opposite Albion Mines), and a grand daughter of John McLellan, who came to this country in the Ship Hector on the 15th of September 1773, the first Scotch immigrant ship to arrived in Pictou Harbour.  Jane McLellan (the late Mrs. Douglas), was one of a family of thirteen children, nine sons and four daughters, twelve of whom lived to arrive at mature years.  Three of the family still survive, viz., - Duncan McLellan, Potter's Bridge, New Glasgow; Thomas McLellan, Fall River, Mass., and Mrs. John Fraser, Philadelphia, Pa.  Sixty nine years ago, Jane McLellan was married to Alexander Douglas, one of New Glasgow's pioneer merchants, and who predeceased his wife twenty eight years.  The store he did business in is now occupied by his son George.  The late Mrs. Douglas left a family of nine children, viz, - John, (Stellarton) Howard, George, Robert, Daniel, Harvey and Mrs. Captain McIntosh in New Glasgow, Mrs. McKinnon Prince Edward Island and Bessie, Boston, Mass.  Mrs. Douglas was remarkably smart and active for a lady of her age until a few months ago.  But so it is, the good old folk of New Glasgow are dropping out one by one, and do it will be until the end of time, for Providence has so ordained.  Happy is the one who can say at the end, - "Not my will but thine, O Lord be done."
