Description

Margaret Barbara MacKenzie is the daughter of Donald and Christina MacKenzie of Toney River. Margaret Barbara was known to my grandmother, Margaret Matilda (Fraser) Bailey, as "Aunt Maggie." I believe both my grandmother and mother, Barbara (Bailey) Stoddard, were likely named for her. A rather large watercolor portrait was made from this photograph after Margaret's death in 1893 and was in the possession of Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser, her sister, and later her namesake niece, Margaret Matilda (Fraser) Bailey in Aberdeen, Washington.

Margaret is buried with her parents at Riverbank Cemetery at Toney Mills. Her inscription on the family monument at Riverbank Cemetery says, "Margaret B. MacKenzie 1871-1893." The year of her birth is incorrect on the inscription. Margaret was born June 10, 1869.
