Angus MacKenzie
RIVER JOHN, Nov. 4 — In the passing on Oct. 30 at the old home, River John, of Angus MacKenzie, at the advanced age of 92 years, one of the oldest residents of the county has gone beyond and a link of the chain connecting the present with the pioneer days of the county is severed.
In earlier life the deceased was a successful farmer, and although retired for the past thirty years was until be became confined to bed three weeks ago, wonderfully active. There survive him his wife, a sister of Mr. Dan Sutherland, High Street, Pictou, and five children, two sons, John J., of Schenectady, N.Y., and Edward S., the well known druggist of New Glasgow, and three daughters, Mrs. (Dr.) Murray, and Mrs. A. S. MacLeod, of River John, and Mrs. (Dr.) W. L. Fraser, of Lynn, Mass. There is also one surviving sister, Mrs. Coventry, of River John, the last of a family of twelve.
Mr. MacKenzie was a staunch Presbyterian and for over fifty years was an elder of the Presbyterian Church at River John.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 2nd, and was conducted by Rev. J. A. Forbes of the United Church, River John, assisted by Rev. James Fitzpatrick, of River John. It was largely attended by the people of the surrounding countryside and friends from New Glasgow, Westville, Pictou and other places.
