Daniel A. MacDonald
Seafoam, July 22 - The death of Daniel A. MacDonald occurred at his home at Toney River on Saturday, July 13, after a lingering illness. He was in his 84th year and was the last surviving member of the family of the late John MacDonald and Jane Chisholm. He was a well known and highly esteemed resident of Toney River, a good neighbour and a kind friend, and many will remember his kind hospitality offered to all who had occasion to visit at his home.
Those left to mourn are hsi wife, the former Clara Clark of Popular Hill; one daughter, Mrs. Frank Henderson (Janie) of Seafoam; and five sons, Cyrus, of Boston, Mass.; James, Waterside; Clyde, Lyons Brook; Elwood, Toney Mills, and Henry, at home.
The funeral, held on Tuesday, July 16 was largely attended. In the absence of his pastor the service was conducted by Rev. G. M. Lamont of Pictou.
He was a member of St. David's Presbyterian Church, and the choir led in the singing of "The Lord's my Shepherd," "What a Friend we Have in Jesus" and "The Home over There." The floral offerings were may and beautiful. Interment was in Riverback cemetery at Toney River.
*As per the Nova Scotia Historical Vital Stats: Alexander Daniel MacDonald, the son of John MacDonald and Jane Chisholm MacDonald, born in Toney River, married Clara Viola Clark, the daughter of David Clark and Annie McPherson Clark of Poplar Hill. They were married in Wallace on 11 May 1899. A Daniel was 35 and Clara Viola was 23.
* As per the the 1901 and 1921 Pictou County Census, Daniel and Clara had the following children: Jane, Henry, Cyrus, James, Clyde and Elwood. Daniel's father John lived with them in 1901 as did Florence Walters, an adopted daughter, born in England who emigrated to Canada in 1895.
