Description
Attached to the back of this photocopy, a news article stating the following:
Letters received by English mial convey the sad news of the death of Capt. John W. Forbes of the ship Record, says the Eastern Chronicle. He died of dropsy after long illness, on the 22nd March last, and was buried at sea. His death occurred five months after leaving Tacoma, Washington Territory, bound for Queenstown, Ireland, and about three weeks before the ship arrived in port. Capt. Forbes belonged to Abercrombie, in Pictou county, and was for 28 years one of Pictou's well known and successful shipmasters. During his twenty-eight years' service Capt. Forbes never lost a man or a ship, but was the means of saving many lives. He was about 54 years of age and unmarried; he leaves a large circle of friends throughout the county.
Ship information recorded on the back as well.
