Description
Written on back: Mr. & Mrs. W. D. Maxwell's Golden Wedding Anniversary, Mt. Thom, Pictou County, 22 July 1921
As per the obituary of Mrs Mary Ann Maxwell printed in the Pictou Advocate, 4 November 1921, p.5.
Mrs. Wm. D. Maxwell.
After a year of painless illness there passed to rest on Sunday morning, October 30th, as the early church bell was ringing, Mary Ann, beloved wife of William D. Maxwell, of Lower Mount Thom.
The deceased was born at Mt. Thom seventy-one years ago and spent over fifty years as the wife of the now bereaved husband. Last summer they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with all their family around them, as well as some who had been present at the first ceremony.
Mrs. Maxwell is survived by one brother, Isaac Irving, now of Boston, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Smith, of Pictou, and Mrs. John Thompson, of Chelmsford, Mass.; also by nine children, James of Sydney; Charles, Alice and Florence at home; Mrs. C. L. Moore, Pictou; Mrs. L. MacKay, Riversdale; Ann of Brighton, Mass.; Susie in Winnipeg, and Lilia at Fort Q'Appelle, Sask.
All were present at the funeral service except the two daughters in the west, whose distance from home prevented their participating in the last sad rites which marked the close of a beautiful life.
Floral offerings were received from the absent members of the family, from the women of Riversdale and other friends.
