No. 13 Held an Inquest on Sunday the 27th September (1857) on view of the body of Phillip Spooner mate of the Am. Brig Monica - Captain William Handy

— Verdict—

The said Jury do upon their oath say that William Mullin late of Pictou in the County of Pictou Seaman on the 26th day of September in the year aforesaid at Pictou in the County of Pictou in and upon the said Phillip Spooner in the peace of God and our said Lady the Queen then and their being feloniously and in the fury of his mind did make an assault and that the said William Mullins with a certain knife of the value of one shillling him the said Phillip Spooner then and there feloniously and with the fury of his mind did strike and stab, he the said Phillip Spooner then and there not having any weapon drawn and that the said William Mullin with the knife aforesaid did then and there give unto him the said Phillip Spooner on and upon the said left leg of him the said Phillip Spooner one mortal wound of the breadth of three quarters of an inch of which said mortal wound he the said Phillip Spooner then and there died, so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid, do say that the said William Mullin him the said Phillip Spooner in manner and by the means aforesaid, felonously and in the fury of his mind, did kill and slay against the form of the statute in such case made and provoked and against the peace of our said Lady the Queen her crown and dignity
