Dear Sir:

Your letter of the 2nd August last was sent me by post from Comarty as soon as Capt McGlashan arrived there and the Sabbath there after intimated from the pulpit that I had a letter from you and that your Father was then alive and that you wanted to hear about your friends

And I desired one should come to me from the Parish of Rogart to inform me about them there accordingly Donald MacKay came whom I desired to draw upon answer to your letter in two weeks he returned

with the enclosed scroll, which I undertook to abridge, but only my health had soon after taken such an unnatural turn, that I was not able to have at least near finished my course and whatever sickness pain or darkness may intervene I had and still have the lively hope of the crown of righteousness the righteous judge shall give to all who love his appearance your letter came in January but as I am becoming weaker I send you the inclosed rather than lose any time to get Donald to renew it and you may still wirte to my care for your letter will be releived by some body.  William Gordons son is with his Mother a cripple.

Thomas Gordon's wife died about two years ago and Capt Donald Matheson Shiness my son-in-law took the youngest boy and aliments him still.  If your father be alive tell him I expect to see him never to part.  I am happy to hear you have the gospel in purity much good be done by it.

This will be sent to Mr. Pagan, Glasgow and hope it introduce your correspondence with this Country.
