“Halifax, 3 July 1841
John W. Harris, Esq.
High Sheriff
Pictou
Sir,
I am surprised and disappointed at not having my instructions complied with, with respect to the [hons?] in your hands against McKenzie, McCallum, and Rogers at Sir Thomas Cochran more particularly as you have had ample time for so doing. I cannot suppose that you are unable to execute these processes – if you are, say so and I shall understand you – but at all [events?] I feel it a duty I own to my Client that and but [pistia] to myself to take the only the [answer] that now remains and make a representation of the facts in the [proper quarter] in order that I may satisfy my Client that all has been done correctly on my part, unless I know something from you to vary this determination.
I was told by Mr. Stewart that you had requested him to say it would be [mussay] for me to go to Pictou Island. To which I have to answer that I do not find it convenient nor do I consider it to be at all [mycpay] for me to travel from Halifax to Pictou Island to assist in [wanting] final proofs or to [supesed] the [mapity] of it.
I request that the Alias from in the [afoor sints] may be sent back to me by return of Port.
I am Sir your obedient servent,
H. Harthorn”
