Description
Journal contains songs copied from the American Vocalist song book by Annabelle Cameron.
Explanation of the journal written inside:
"When I was a girl in my teens we had an "American Vocalist" from which we used to sing on Sunday evenings. It was a very old book, and had been much used, but much to my regret, I think it must have been lost or destroyed, in my frequent “movings” in these later years.
My father had a good voice, and loved singing as we all did, especially myself. There was also our A.S. teacher, Ephraim Stramberg, who was also choir leader in our “St. George Church” he also conducted “Singing Schools.” Well, he used to come to our home a great deal, from A.S. and stay to supper, and spend the evening and then we would go through this book. E.S. used to come often times too from Church, which of course was 4 miles away, then stay for A.S.
To my great delight I formed one of these old books, at Mrs. George Keeler (?), Dartmouth, with whom I am now staying, as I am copying some of them off into this scribbler, in the hope that sometime I shall get a better book and re-copy them.”
