Estate of James McGregor Culton, late of Springville, Farmer, deceased, Testate

Certified Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

I James McGregor Culton of Springville East Branch East River of Pictou, in the County of Pictou - being of sound mind and memory, and taking into consideration the uncertainty of this frail life, do make this my last Will and Testament.

Item,  I give and bequeath to Catherine McKenzie Culton, my wife all that certain lot of land in my possession at the present time being on the East Branch of the East River and which is abutted and bounded as follows - that is to say beginning at the East side of the said East Branch one foot North of a certain Beech Corner tree marked, being the division line between the lands of me the said James McGregor Culton and a certain Hugh Culton and running from then on the said division line East forty two chains and fifty links or until it comes to the lands of Alexander Calder, thence on the line of the said lands of the said Alexander Calder South fourteen chains and Seventy links, or until or comes to the line of the lands of the heirs of William McIntosh,

Thence on the said line of the lands of the heirs of the said William McIntosh West, twenty six Chains and fifty links, or until it comes to the Southeast angle of Robert David Culton, Thence on the line of said lands of the said Robert David Culton North three chains and twenty five links or until it comes to the Northeast angle of the lands aforesaid, thence on the North side of the said lands West Sixteen chains or until, it comes to the margin of the East Branch aforesaid thence along the said margin of the said East River he several courses of the same downstream until it comes to the first boundary ad place of beginning containing Fifty seven acres be they more or less.

Item,  I likewise give and bequeath to Catherine McKenzie Culton my wife all my personal property namely, three horses, and six cows together with all my farming implements household furniture and my seat in Springville Church being No. 7- subject however to the conditions that she my wife Catherine McKenzie Culton train up our son Hugh John McKenzie Culton in a proper manner and give him a good education, and also, if she my wife could avoid selling the farm, that at her death it go, with all belongings to it to our son Hugh John McKenzie Culton.

It is my request that I be buried on my farm on Limerock Hill at the river, and that when suitable an Iron Headstone be when suitable an Iron Headstone be erected in my memory.

I appoint and ordain John George McIntosh of Island East River my Executor and my wife Catherine McKenzie Culton Executrix of this my last  Will and Testament.

Signed, Sealed published and delivered as my last Will and testament this twelfth day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Eighty seven, in presence of Donald G. Delany of Churchville and Joseph Delany of Churchville who have signed their names in the presence of each other and in the presence of the Testator-

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of James McGregor Culton late of Springville in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou, this 29th day of December A.D. 1887.
