Estate of William G. Crerar, late of Pictou, Gentleman, deceased, Testate

Certified Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

 
This is the last Will and Testament of me, William Grant Crerar of Glenalmond in the town of Pictou in the County of Pictou, Gentleman.

I order and direct that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses shall be paid by my Executors and Trustees hereinafter named or the survivor of them out of my personal estate.

I give devise and bequeath unto my nephew Henry H. Crerar of Antigonish Gentleman, absolutely all bonds or debentures of the Town of Antigonish now owned or possessed by me together with all coupons or interest thereon due or growing due.

I also give devise and bequeath unto the said Henry H. Crerar absolutely Two Hundred Shares of the Capital Stock of the Halifax Banking Company standing or registered in my name. I also give devise and bequeath unto the said Henry H. Crerar absolutely Three hundred and twenty Dollars, Canadian money.

I give devise and bequeath unto my nephew John Crerar of the city of Chicago, Merchant, absolutely, Sixteen thousand Dollars Canada money, less the sum of Two thousand seven hundred and fourteen Dollars the said John Crerar owes me, and on which last named sum I order and direct that no interest shall be charged.

I give devise and bequeath unto my niece Jane McKean wife of David McKean of Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Four thousand Dollars Canada money for her sole and separate use and benefit independently and exclusively and without being subject in any wise to the debts, control, interference or engagements of her present or any future husband, and the receipts of the said Jane McKean shall be a sufficient discharge for the same.

I give devise and bequeath unto James Peter Crerar of Ottawa my nephew absolutely Sixteen thousand Dollars Canada money.

I give devise and bequeath unto my niece Laura Boyd wife of William Boyd, of Edinburgh, Esquire, Four thousand Dollars Canada money, for her sole and separate use and benefit independently and exclusively and without being subject in any wise to the debts, control, interference or engagements of her present or any future husband, and the receipts of the said Laura Boyd shall be a sufficient discharge for the same.

I give devise and bequeath unto my brother David L. Crerar of Pictou aforesaid Gentleman, absolutely the sum of Twelve thousand Dollars Canada money, and should the said David L. Crerar, depart this life before me, I give devise and bequeath the sum of Twelve thousand Dollars so devised to him as aforesaid to be divided among the daughters and Son of the said David L. Crerar as follows - to Annie Crerar Two thousand Dollars, to Olivia Crerar Two thousand Dollars, to Susan Crerar Two thousand Dollars and to Peter Crerar Six thousand Dollars, in the event of the said bequests to the said daughters and son of the said David L. Crerar taking effect, I order and direct that the said bequests to the said  Annie Crerar, Olivia Crerar, and Susan Crerar shall be for their Sole and separate use respectively and without being subject to the debts or control or interference of husbands, should the said David L. Crerar depart this life before Testator, I order and direct tht said bequests to his Children shall not be paid till they each attain twenty one years, and no interest shall be payable on said bequests.

I give devise and bequeath to Catharine McQuarrie now residing at Glenalmond for the term of her natural life the annuity or yearly Sum of Two hundred Dollars Canada money aforesaid to be paid to her in advance half yearly by Henry H. Crerar, John Crerar, and James P. Crerar, out of the several bequests made to them as hereinbefore specified or the interest thereon, and in the following proportions, the said Henry H. Crerar the sum of One hundred and twenty dollars yearly, of half yearly payments of Sixty dollars each in advance, beginning from one week after my decease; the said John Crerar and James P. Crerar  the annual Sum of Forty Dollars Each in half yearly payments of Twenty dollars each, in advance, beginning from the time aforesaid.

I give devise and bequeath unto the said Catharine McQuarrie all the furniture bed and bedding in bedroom occupied by her at Glenalmond.

I give devise and bequeath unto the said Henry H. Crerar absolutely all my other household furniture family pictures and plate.

I give devise and bequeath unto the said John Crerar, James P. Crerar and Henry H. Crerar, absolutely my property called Glenalmond, and all lands and real estate attached thereto or which O now own or wherever situate.

I hereby give devise and bequeath unto the said John Crerar, James P. Crerar and Henry H. Crerar absolutely all my horses, cattle and personal property situate and being at Glenalmond aforesaid, not hereinbefore devised.

In the event of my bank stocks, money in banks, deposit weights, and moneys due, not being sufficient to pay in full the pecussiary legacies  to the said John Crerar, James P. Crerar and Henry H. Crerar, then I order and direct that Glenalmond and all my lands be sold either at public Auction or private Sale by my Executors and Trustees hereinafter named, and the proceeds or any part thereof applied to the payment in full of said legacies.

I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto the said John Crerar, James P. Crerar and Henry H. Crerar absolutely, all the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore disposed of and which shall remain after payment of my debts, legacies funeral and testamentary expenses.

And I do hereby appoint the said James P. Crerar and Henry H. Crerar and the Survivor of them Executors and Trustees of this my  last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other testamentary writings by me at any time heretofore made.

In witness whereof I have hereto my hand Subscribed and Seal affixed  this nineteenth day of June A.D. 1891.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of four pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of William Grant Crerar, late of Pictou, in the County of Pictou, Gentleman, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou, this 20th day of April A.D. 1898.
