Estate of Alexander R. Grant, late of East Branch East River, deceased, Testate

Certified Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

I Alexander Robert Grant Senior of the East Branch, East River of Pictou, in the County of Pictou, being of sound mind and memory and taking into consideration the uncertainty of this frail life do make this my last Will and Testament.

Item, I give and bequeath unto John Robert Grant my son and unto his heirs the Grist Mill belonging unto me and the lands adjoining and all Singular the ways, waters, and water courses, privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining, Subject however unto the payment of one fourth part of the income of the Grist Mill yearly and every year unto his mother during the term of her natural life.

Also I give and bequeath unto the said John Robert Grant and to his heirs That Lot of Land Situate, lying and being on the Eat Side of the East Branch of the East River of Pictou, and butted and bounded as follows, to wit beginning at a large Hemlock tree on the margin of the said East Branch being the lower boundary of a lot of land owned and occupied by the heirs of the late James Grant Alexanders Son thence to run North Seventy degrees East along the lower line of said Lot One hundred and Sixty Six Rods, or to what was called the new road leading from upper Settlement to the lower Settlement thence Northerly along the Several courses of the said road until it strikes the line of what is generally called Big Findlay's Lot thence westerly by said Lot and Southwardly by the Lot Sold by the said Robert Grant to a certain Finley Fraser to the said East Branch and thence along the same up stream to the place of beginning containing one and Sixty acres more or lefs - Subject to the conditions that the said John Robert Grant provide sufficient Fire wood yearly for his mother during her life and also that his sisters have the privilege of cutting and using firewood on said Lot while they remain at the old Homestead.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Grant, Wardrobe Grant, and Anna Grant the Homestead and Homestead Lot on the west side of the Millstream.

Item, I give and bequeath to the said Mary Grant, Wardrobe Grant, and Anna Grant the remaining half part being the Northern half part of that Lot of land purchased by my father the late Robert Grant Senior from David McLean Esquire

Item, I give and bequeath to Mary Grant my daughter the sum of Six hundred Dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath Wardrobe Grant my daughter, the sum of Six hundred Dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath to Anna Grant my daughter the sum of Six hundred Dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath Ellen Grant my Grand daughter the sum of One hundred Dollars.

Item, I give and bequeath to Christy Grant my wife after all my just debts are paid together with my funeral expenses liquidated, all the remaining personal property of whatever kind and description including household furniture, clothing, Promissory notes, debts, accounts, i.e. and which of right belong unto me my said wife and her heirs.

I appoint and ordain John Robert Grant my Son Executor, and Anna Grant my daughter Executrix of this my  last Will and Testament,  hereby utterly revoking and annulling all former wills and Testaments by me made and appointed, Signed, Sealed, Published and declared as my last Will and Testament This Thirteenth day of February, in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and Eighty three, In the presence of Alexander F. McDonald and David W. McKay of Mill Stream East Branch East River, who also have subscribed their names in the presence of each other and in presence of the Testator.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two & a quarter pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Alexander R. Grant late of East Branch, East River of Pictou, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 15th day of June A.D. 1883.
