Estate of Thomas Fraser, late of Saltsprings, Farmer, deceased, Testate

Certified Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

Know all men by these presents, that I Thomas Fraser of Saltsprings in the County of Pictou, and Province of Nova Scotia, farmer, being of sound disposing mine and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.

1st. I give and bequeath to my son William al that lot of land with the buildings thereon situated and bounded as follows. - On the East by land occupied and owned by William Maxwell, on the South by the West River, on the west by land, at present worked and occupied by my son John, and on the North by the farm of Daniel Fraser and Widow James Fraser, Containing Seventy acres of land more or less, to have and to hold the said premises with the appurtenances thereof, to him the said William Fraser, to his heirs and assigns for ever.

2nd. I require him the said William Fraser, to give to my wife Jessie yearly for the term of her life the following, viz two and a half hundred in weight of Flour (word scratched out and initialed) Two hundred weight of Oatmeal, twenty bushels of potatoes, ten lbs of tea, ten lbs of sugar and fifty lbs of beef, for her sole and separate use. I require him also the said William Fraser to keep on the farm two cows and two sheep for her Sole and separate use, and also to give her, for her separate use that part of the house at present occupied by her along with myself, and to provide a sufficient quantity of wood for the fire during her life.

3rd. I give and bequeath to my son John all that lot of land with the building thereon, situated and bounded as follows, on the east by land occupied and worked by my son William, on the south by the west River, on the west by land already owned and occupied by himself the said John Fraser, and on the north by land owned by Daniel Fraser to have and to hold the said premises with the appurtenances thereof, to him the said John Fraser, to his heirs and assigns forever, containing thirty acres of land more or less.

4th. I require the said John Fraser to pay to my wife Jessie yearly for the term of her life One hundred and fifty lbs of flour, one hundred and fifty lbs of Oatmeal, ten bushels of potatoes, two and one half lbs of tea, ten lbs of Sugar, and twenty five lbs of Pork, and to keep on the farm for her Sole and separate use two sheep for the term of her life. I also require him to keep her suitably provided with shoes and to assist my son William in providing firewood for her use.

5th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Maggie one Cow and two sheep, to be given her by my son William in the event of her leaving home, or getting married.

(6) I ordain and appoint Daniel Chisholm of Saltsprings and William Cameron of Saltsprings as executors of this my  last Will and Testament.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand  and Seal and publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in the presence of the witnesses named below, this second day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty one.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Thomas Fraser late of Saltsprings, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou, this 30th day of April A.D. 1883.
