Daniel Robert Munroe. 90, a retired Providence fire captain, died yesterday at his home, 82 Summer St. He was the husband of Mrs. Annie Sarah (Bowser) Munroe.
Born in Hopewell, Pictou County, Nova Scotia on January 18, 1866, he was the son of the late Henry and Barbara (MacDonald) Munroe. He has been a resident of this city for 65 years. Mrs. Munroe joined the Providence Fire Department in January 1896, and retired in May, 1923. He was employed by the old High Street Bank for 23 years after his retirement from the fire department.
Active in church work, he was one of the oldest living deacons of Plymouth Union Congregational Church. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 30, A.F. and A.m., of East Providence, the Providence Permanent Firemen’s Relief Association and the Providence Retired Firemen’s Association.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Stena A. Hoxsie and Mrs. Jennie Long Gray, both of Providence; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Juhlin-Pearson Chapel, 754 Broad St., with the Rev. J. Wesley Prince officiation. Burial will be in Quidnessett Cemetery, North Kingstown.
