Description ]Barbara] Munroe

Friends in the statement received with deep sorrow news of the death in her Pictou County home on Thursday last, Mrs. Barbara Munroe, at the age of 97, who for years, lived on the old farm at Hopewell. Between the day she was born and this day, what world-shaking events have occurred. What history-making years she lived through.

She was a remarkable example of victory over her old age, her nature seemed to remained youthful and her conversation animated with a spice of playfulness at all times. The latch-string of her home was always open.

She was a friend of everybody’s young and old, boy or man, girl or woman. It made no difference; you were always welcome and received with a hearty greeting.

Late years brought her the outward disabilities of age, but she bore it cheerfully, that she quite put fate to shame. Great sympathy marked her character. Her word was a sacred obligation.

She was a lady of fine temperament, kindly and charitable, while her sense of living, loving righteous Master was a part of the substance of her bring. In her essential life Christianity appeared again in perpetual bloom.

We that have known this sweet lady for many years, confess with gratitude that she was a person who will be missed by scores, both in her locality and in the States.

In years to come when we pass the gate to her farm, we will pause to recall Mrs. Barbara Munroe, as a most kindly and courteous lady whose cordial greetings were a delight to all with whom she came in contact.

She survived by two sons, (in addition to other relatives) one in Sydney and one in Providence. The latter being Mr. Daniel R. Munro, who is connected with the High Street Bank, and who went home for the funeral.
