Pictou Advocate, 14 September 1917 p9

In the casualty lists as published on Wednesday appears the name of John P. McQueen as being gassed.  This we presume to be the former teacher of the high school staff who enlisted last year and has not been long in reaching the front.  We trust the injuries or illness, which ever is the proper term, will not be of lasting or serious nature. - Eastern Chronicle
