Description William McDonald Family of Durham

William McDonald was born 4 January 1846 at Durham, , the son of James and Margaret Ann Archibald McDonald.

Nancy Witney Sylvester was born 26 June 1850 at Middle River, the daughter of David and Susan Hill Sylvester.  

William and Nancy were married 12 December 1871 at Middle River, Pictou County.  They lived and raised their family of 11 children at Durham.

William was about 75 years old when this photo was taken.  He died 5 April 1926 at the age of 80.  His wife Nancy died about a year before him. 

Their 11 children all survived to adulthood.  David W, aka D W and Alexander W aka A W, lived in New Glasgow, Pictou County. David W married Syrena Susie Rae of Millsville in 1900. John J, G Witney and Styles lived in Providence, Rhode Island. Styles married Elizabeth Urquhart of Eureka in 1912. Roland lived in Winnipeg. Walter lived on the farm in Durham and married Mary Dorothy Bryan in 1933. Susan married James Millar of Rogers Hill in 1895 and moved to Highlands, California. Nancy married Harry Eadie from Antigonish in 1916. Christie married Neil Scott MacLeod of Six Mile Brook in 1932.
