Description Pictou Golf and Country Club

Built for Judge James Fogo in 1854 and christened Belleville, the home was a private residence until the early 1920s when it was purchased by local Pictou citizens to be used as a golf club. 

James Fogo, born Glasgow, Scotland in 1811, James emigrated to Pictou with his parents, James Senior and Elizabeth in 1817.  He attended Pictou Academy, studied law in the office of Jotham Blanchard, was admitted to the bar in 1837, became Judge of Probate in 1850.  - Pictonians At Home and Abroad, Rev JP MacPhie MA.

James Fogo was married twice, first to Jane McKinlay who died at 29.  His second marriage was to widow, Elizabeth Ives Nixon.
