This photograph was taken at Trail, British Columbia, Canada circa 1925.
From Left ro Right: Seated: Jessie May (McKay) Henderson, Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser, Lillian (Boyce) McKay, Barbara Lois Bailey, Margaret Matilda (Fraser) Bailey. Standing: John "Jack" Henderson, Waldemar "Walter" Bailey, Samuel "Al" McKay, Simon Roderick Fraser.
Everyone in this photograph is originally from Toney River, Pictou County, Nova Scotia except Barbara Bailey, Walter Bailey, and Lillian McKay. Margaret (Fraser) Bailey was born at Stellarton, Pictou County, Nova Scotia on January 16,1894.
Jessie May (McKay) Henderson and Samuel "Al" McKay are brother and sister. They are the children of James and Catherine (MacKenzie) McKay of Toney River. Their mother Catherine (MacKenzie) McKay and Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser are sisters. Therefore, Jessie May Henderson and Al McKay are Jessie Ann Fraser's niece and nephew. Catherine (MacKenzie) McKay died in 1925...and this may have been another reason for the seven travelers to take the long journey to visit Jack and Jessie May Henderson living at Trail, B.C., Canada that year.
Jessie Fraser appears quite pleased to be with her family and relatives in this photo. Al and Jessie May's father, James D. McKay, took over the gristmill operation and purchased the land dwelling home known as "Sunny Summit" at Toney River from John McRae in November 1881 when John McRae and family departed for Missouri. He operated the gristmill until circa 1885.
As far as I know, Jack and Jessie May Henderson and Al and Lillian McKay were both childless married couples.
Simon and Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser's daughter is Margaret Matilda (Fraser) Bailey, seated on the far right. She married Waldemar "Walter" Bailey (second from left, standing) of Hoquiam, Washington. They are my grandfather and grandmother. Their daughter is the little girl in the photograph, my mother, Barbara Lois Bailey. Walter Bailey was a welder by trade. He died in May 1936 while working on the Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River that separates Oregon and Washington near their home at the time at Vancouver, Washington.
This is one of the last photographs of Simon Fraser. He died at his home in Aberdeen, Washington about four years later, at the age of 69, in August 1929. Jessie Ann (MacKenzie) Fraser lived to be 92. She died at Aberdeen, Washington in November 1955.
