Tintype photo identified as Uncle George McDonald.

Possibly the brother of Alexander McDonald and son of Allan and Janet Grant McDonald of Hardwood Hill, Pictou County, Nova Scotia

George McDonald was born about 1846.  He married Dolena McKenzie and had eight daughters.  George managed the Elk Hotel in Comox, Vancouver, British Columbia.
