Mr. Bowler,
Dear friend: Just got a note from Nellie saying you were up on your "40" and if such is the case I fancy a few lines from a very naughty girl may serve to brake the monotony of camp life a wee bit.
Now if you excuse this horrid paper as it's all I can find in Sis' desk. She is married you know and I fancy that is the reason I find no scented note paper on which I might scratch foolish thoughts for my own pleasure as well as kill a little time for you.
You see I got off on that morning train all right my but it was nip & tuck tho! I had to ask the motor man if he wouldn't please hurry up a bit I just had to make that train. Guess the man must have thought I was trying to flirt with him - But I soon made him understand - and good for him my favor was granted - I was not yet seated when my train pulled out. So you see I'm a regular little (?) fool for luck.
Sand is pretty cranky this cold weather - I put rock salt in his bed last night and he started to scold me this morning but I stuck my fingers in my ears & ran out. It was horrid for him to get sore for such a little thing but I guess he wasn't feeling good and I'm not going to do it again.
Nellie says her lodge "doins" went off fine. I'm so glad for her sake. Personally I'm no lodge fiend at all but I think they do a good work just the same.
I'm staying with my Sister's children tonight while she and her husband attend some lodge affair in Hinckley (tonight) and they won't be home until 2-30 a.m.
I'm just too scared to go to bed but I won't tell her that and I'll jump in bed when I hear them coming. I'd phone Sandy but that is too silly for anything. I aught to be glad if a tramp came & carried me off.
But I'm not very anxious to hear the door bell - Ugh! if the bed wasn't so awful low I could crawl under it. Guess I'll change the subject or phoning will be in order after all.
Say it was so nice of your Sister inviting us up to dinner that evening. I liked both Mr. & Mrs. Law (+ the boys) very much. Dear! me! I'm forced to smile when I think of telling her about the "deal" coming out of those Scotch boys.
How is your Sis? (the sickly one). She has such a sad sweet face. You know I felt awful bad wicket I mean I was with her. (The diff. wasn't so marked with the rest of you) But really she seemd so good.
Say this is the last sheet of even this paper and I'll have to (over)write backwards. Now you better be glad that this tablet is at an end or I might scribble away all evening.
Now I will ring off thanking you for your kindness to me when in the city. Only wish I could do something for you some time as all the goodness is on your side of the fence.
Now if you have any time let me hear about that piece of land & how your enjoying yourself.
Night, night
Your naughty girl friend
Emma Gunn
