Description Harold Wilson MacKay

Harold Wilson McKay

On Sunday morning last, May 31st, the death occurred of Harold Wilson McKay, in the Victoria Hospital, Montreal.  Mr. McKay was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McKay, highly esteemed citizens of Pictou, and the whole community is in deepest sympathy with the grief-stricken parents in the loss of their son, who had just begun a most promising career as an actuary.

"Hal" McKay was a fine type of youth, a brilliant student at Pictou Academy and at Mount Allison University from which he graduated in 1930, having made a splendid record as a student.  He entered the actuarial department of the Sun Life Assurance Co. in Montreal, and was rapidly revealing his fine mental powers in that sphere of business when, a few months ago he was stricken down with illness.   He successfully recovered from several operations, but was compelled to re-enter hospital, and every effort to save his valuable young life failed.  Mr. and Mrs. McKay were called to his bedside last Friday morning and arrived in time to spend some hours with him before death came.  It was to them a great comfort that he knew them and could speak to them.   They returned on Tuesday night with the remains, and the funeral took place today from the United Church.

Of quiet, modest temperament, "Hal" endeared himself to a circle of young people in town and college and in business who deeply lament his untimely passing at the age of 22.  A clean living, industrious and courteous youth he commended himself to all who knew him, and did credit to his home, his school, and community.

Besides his sorrowing parents he leaves to mourn, a sister, Marguerite, on the staff of Mount Royal College, Calgary.
