Wiliam M. Munro
The death occurred Thursday morning, Aug 14 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, where he had been a resident for the past 14 years, of William MacLaren Munro, well-known photographer of Pictou in former years. He was in his 87th year.
A man of kindly manner, he was an artist in his profession, and in his day had a wide repute for his outdoor studies, many of which, of old Pictou scenes, are treasured by their owners here and abroad. A splendid portratist as well, generations of Pictonians were recorded by him for posterity, and the pictures of the graduating classes of Pictou Academy, from the early nineties until he retired about 1920, which hang on the walls of the Academy, are a monument to his artistry with camera and pencil.
Besides his son, Rev. W. Fraser Munro of Kentville, Mr. Munro is survived by his three sisters, Eliza, Mrs. George Fullerton of Calgary; Mary, Mrs. J. R. Brown of New Glasgow, and Jean, Mrs L. A. MacLean of Montreal. Rev. Fraser and Mrs. Munro, Rev. Fraser and Mrs. Munro, Rev. and Mrs L. A. MacLean, Mrs. Ronald Wark of Montreal, a niece, and Aubrey Fullerton, of Portland, Oregon, a nephew, were present at the funeral.
The funeral was held from the Home on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 16, under the auspices of Eastern Star Lodge No. 1, I.O.O.F., of which he was a member for many years, with Rev. Dr. P. M. MacDonald of Toronto officiating.
The pall bearers were all Oddfellows: T. G. Thompson, Harold A. Thompson, Peter MacNaughton, George Luke, Edward Logan and J. Cecil Brown.
Interment was at Haliburton cemetery beside his wife, who predeceased him about twenty years ago.
