The Fraser Oggs of New Glasgow
William Fraser, Ogg, was born in Scotland and came to this province in 1784. He landed at Halifax and after visiting different parts of the Province he obtained a grant of land on the present site of the town of New Glasgow but exchanged his grant for one on the west side of the river which has been issued to one "Deacon" Fraser. The reason for the exchange was that the latter grant had a brook and mill site and William wished to go into the milling business which had been his occupation in the old country.
He married Isabella MacKay who became known in Scotland as the "white lady" on account of her fairness and beauty and also it is said by reason of her somewhat overbearing disposition! She was a connecction of Squire John MacKay, first Stipendiary Magistrate of New Glasgow. Tradition says that she was a sister of the wife of Squire John.
Five children were born to William Fraser and Isabella MacKay his wife viz: Donald, Archibald, Margaret and William. William Fraser (2nd) was twice married. There was no family by his first wife at least none reachhing manhood or womanhood. His second wife was Nancy MacKay who was a sister of Simon MacKay. Their family consisted of - Mary, Katie, Margaret Flora, William, Belle, Archibald and Nancy. Nancy Fraser married Duncan Maxwell of Lower Mount Thom. She was born in 1814 and died at Lower Mount Thom on Dec. 16, 1890, aged 76 years.
