Dated  16th day of February 1821 between John Stevenson and Martha his wife and William Matheson Esq. Cons £40. Described as follows. A certain lot or parcel of land situate lying and being written the limits of the Philadelphia Grant so called in the district of Pictou of [above and below?] as follows [wm?] Beginning at a birch tree g96 rods and 10 linkssouth from the north east corner of Alex Hatties wood lot in lot or block [Lellen B] No 12 in the said grant agreeable to a plan of partition there of made at Halifax. Thence running east 83 rods thence south 96 rods 10 links until it comes to lands sold to a certain John Magnus Arthur. Thence west 56 rods, thence s. 4 rods and 6 links.. Thence west twenty seven rods and thence north 96 rods and 10 links to the place of beginning more or less 50 acres.

Dated November 1819 John Stevenson to Magnus Arthur, £92. Cons All [deat?] certain tract of land situate lying and being n the west side of the of Middle River of Pictou within the bounds of the lands commonly called the Philadelphia Grant and hath such shape form and marks as appears by a plan thereof herewith annexed [above and below?] as follows [from?] beginning at a spruce stake and from thence to run s 232 rods or until it comes to a stake, thence E 64 Rods or until it comes to a beech tree now lying down, thence north 232 rods or until it comes to a small beach, thence W 64 rods or until it meets he place of beginning contains 92 acres more or less.

Dated 2nd January, 1818 between John Stevenson and Martha his wife and Wiliam McLean, cons £100 a certain lot and c. bounded as follows. Beginning at the N.E. corner of Alex Hattie’s E wood lot in Block L.B. No. 12 in the Philadelphia Grant agreement to a plan of partition thereof made according to law at Halifax thence running E 83 rods, thence S. 96 rods and 10 links thence W 83 rods to a birch tree marked WM and J.I.S. thence north 96 rods and 10 links o the place of beginning. Containing 50 acres more or less.

Dated 8th July 1827 Between John Stevenson and Alex Brown lease £28..10. all that certain lot of land situate lying and being in the East side of the West River of Pictou of [above and below?] as follows. Beginning on the East side line of John McLean’s lot and the SW angle of David Grant’s farm lot at a birch tree marked and run thence to run east 74 rods, thence S 84 rods thence W thirty three and [for?] rods to a pine tree marked thence south until it comes to a small brook called the Salt Springs Brook, thence down stream the several courses of said Salt Springs Brook until it comes to a small hemlock tree at the N.E. angle o James McLean’s farm lot, thence north 84 rods or until it comes to the place of beginning  containing in the whole 38 acres 3 rods more or less.

Beginning at the West side of the highway leading from Mill Brook to Greenhill of on the N side line of Robert McKay’s farm and running thence W56 Rods and 12 lines along said line and the N. side line of Andrew McKay’s lot to a stake and stones, thence N 18 degrees E 36 Rods 22 links to a stake and stones, thence E 56 Rods and 12 links to the road after thence along then and road to the place of beginning. Containing 15 acres more or less.

Brown of New York US yeoman and Ann Stevenson [relapy?]Stevenson, Marg Stevenson, Henry Stevenson all heirs of the late John Stevenson and Alex Ross, cons £20 A certain lot of land situated at Green Hill being the western side of the lot formerly owned by the late John Stevenson bounded as follows. Beginning at the NE angle of Alex Brown’s farm lot and to run thence East one hundred and 11 rods to John Arthur’s line thence S along John Arthur’s line fifty-four rods, thence W 111 rods to Alex Brown’s line, thence N along said Alex Brown’s line fifty-one rods to the [head of kept?] containing 30 acres more or less.

Dated 6th march 1853 between Eaphemin Hart widow of Amos Hart deceased. Ann Stevenson, Elspeth Stevenson and Margt Stevenson spinsters, Green Hill all heirs of the undivided property of the late John Stevenson and John Stevenson [Junior?] both deceased. And Alex Ross. Cons £9.10. Beginning at the S. E. angle of the said Alexander Ross’ farm lot and to run from thence W along said Alex Ross line 94 rods thence S 65°East 94 rods more or less to the road leading from Green Hill to Mill Brook thence Easterly along said road to John Arthur’s West line, thence N along said John Arthur’s line 8 rods to the place of beginning. Containing 9 acres more or less.”

Part of the MacLeod Papers Collection containing the files of Ebenezer McLeod of West River, a Hector descendant and surveyor, and his son Daniel. The papers, which are from the 19th and 20th centuries, were saved by Ebenezer’s great-great-grandson Medford MacLeod, also of West River, NS.
