“Know all men by these presents that we, Alfred MacLean of West River in the County of Pictou, and Province of Nova Scotia, farmer, and Theodore MacLean of West River in the County of Pictou, and Province aforesaid, Farmer, are held, and firmly bound unto Edward MacLean of West River, in the County and Province aforesaid, farmer, in the penal sum of One Thousand Dollars of lawful money of Canada, to be paid to the said Edward MacLean, or to his certain attorney, executors, administrators, or assigns, for which payment well and truly to be made we bind our, and each of our heirs, executors and administrators and every one of them, for ever firmly by these presents, Sealed with Our Seals and date, this twenty-sixth day of February, A.D., 1892.

            Whereas the above mentioned, Edward MacLean by deed bearing even date herewith, hath conveyed unto the above bonden Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean, their heirs and assigns, the farm lot now owned and occupied by the said Edward MaLean, and also a lot of land situated at West River, aforesaid, which two lots of land are more particularly described in said Deed, in consideration of the said Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean maintaining, or causing to be maintained the said Edward MacLean, and Ellen MacLean, his wife, during their natural lives and the life of the survivor of them, in all things necessary for their comfort and convenience and the comfort and convenience of each of them.

            Now the Condition of the above obligation is such that if the said Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean provide for the due and proper maintenance and support of him the said Edward MacLean and his wife respectively during the natural lives of each of them, and during the natural life of the survivor of them, it being understood between the said parties hereto that the said Edward MacLean and Ellen MacLean, his wife, shall have a home in the dwelling house on above-mentioned farm lot, and shall receive from the said Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean for their own use, every year, fifteen bushels of potatoes, two barrels of flour, two hundredweight of oatmeal, seven pounds of tea, eighty-four pounds of sugar, and also two cows and two sheep, with sufficient firewood, cut for the stove, t o be delivered at the door of said dwelling, and the necessary clothing for the said Edward MacLean and Ellen MacLean, his wife, suitable for their situation in life. Also that the said Edward MacLean and Ellen MacLean have the use of horse and carriage place at their disposal when wanted; and the said Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean hereby agree to furnish a home in the said dwelling house unto Adelaide MacLean, Louise MacLean and Emeline MacLean, daughters of the said Edward MacLean and Ellen MacLean, if they or either of them should ever require it, and in the even of wither of them being married, to receive either one Cow or Twenty dollars in cash upon being so married. Then, upon all the conditions hereinbefore set out and detailed being complied with and performed by the said Alfred MacLean and Theodore MacLean, this obligation shall be void – otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

            In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals, the day and year first above written.
