“To the Honourable the members for the County of Halifax convened at their preset siting March 1822.
The petition of the subscribers on behalf of the Saltspring Settlement which is situated between the forks of the West River of Pictou most humbly showeth.
That these people suffer great inconvenience from the want of a Bridge on one of the branches of the said River as they have no communication with [any] other part of the settlement but by wadeing or rideing the said Branch which is unpassable for several weeks in the Spring ad fall. That the people are in low circumstance consequently can do little themselves that it is a place much frequented and that there is a Salt work in actual operation at the above spring which offers fair to be of great utility to all the Eastern part of the province.
Your petitioners do humbly pray that your Honour will take these peoples case under consideration and grant them such [president?] ad your petitioners so in duly bound shall win pray. ---Ebenezer McLeod
