Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

County of Pictou

In the name of God Amen.

I William Sutherland of North Dalhousie in the County of Pictou, Farmer, being of sound health retentive memory and discerning ability, and knowing and acknowledging that there is a time appointed for all to die and knowing that it is my duty to put my earthly house in order, before the dissolution of the body takes place, I do hereby make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows

1st.   I give and devise to Alexander my son the property on which we now reside containing 220 acres more or less and all the farming implements and stock which may be on the property at my decease, on condition that he the said Alexander shall perform the following obligations that is, that he is to support his mother in a decent becoming and suitable manner with suitable food for a woman of her age at the same table, a comfortable room with fire when required, good nursing and medical attendance when needed, good clothing and every other of the necessities which may be required at her station of life.

2nd.   I give and bequeath to my daughter Jessie one hundred dollars, also that it will be home to her as long as she desires, she receiving from the said Alexander what is necessary for her support, and that while abel that she is to make herself generally useful in promoting the work in connection with farm life.

3rd. I give and devise to my sons Donald and David that lot of land (being one of the lot of Dean and Chapter lands) bounded on the south by lands belonging to William McIntosh, and on the north by lands belonging to my son John, containing one hundred acre more or less, they the said Donald and David to agree among themselves as to the half that each will occupy.

4th.   I give and bequeath to my son John of Chapter Lot Twenty five cents.

5th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret wife of Daniel McKay (Blacksmith) of Dalhousie twenty five cents

6th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Christy wife of David Langille of River John twenty five cents.

7th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Annie wife of John Beattie now of 3 mile house Twenty five cents.

8th. I give and bequeath to my daughter lily wife of Hugh McKay of River John Twenty five cents.

All the above bequests to Jessie Sutherland, Margaret McKay, Christy Langille, Annie Baillie, Lilly McKay and John Sutherland, my daughters and son, to be paid out of the estate, devised to Alexander my son by him or my Executors.

I hereby appoint John McKenzie my neighbor and Kenneth J. McKenzie my friend of West Branch, River John to be my executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testament, Wills, legacies, bequests and executors by me in any wise before made, Willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereunto I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty four.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two & a quarter pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of William Sutherland late of North Dalhousei, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 3rd. day of October A.D. 1891.
