Will of Angus Sutherland, deceased

Certified Copy of Will for Reg of Deeds Pictou

I Angus Sutherland of Plainfield in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, Merchant an farmer being of sound mind and good judgement and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do hereby make and declare this my last will and testament that is to say when the Lord in his sovereignty is pleased to call me thence by death I do hereby direct.

First. That my body be decently interred in my lot in the new Cemetery at Scotsburn.

Second. That all my lawful debts and funeral expenses be paid.

Third. I give and bequeath to my son Duncan David Sutherland all the land I own being the farm on which I reside together with all the buildings and appurtenances thereunto belonging., consisting of furniture, Books, Household effects, Farming Implements, Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Hogs, fowls, etc. Also all my promissory notes and judgements due to me.

Fourth. I direct that my said son Duncan David Sutherland shall maintain and support my beloved wife Isabell Sutherland in a decent and comfortable manner, that she shall have access to all parts of the house and her choice of a room for her sole use and benefit together with sufficient furniture for the same and that she shall have and maintain parental control and Authority in the family while God in his mercy is pleased to spare her.

Fifth. That my said son Duncan David Sutherland shall maintain and support my Daughter Euphemia in a decent and becoming manner while she remains single she assisting to labor for and contribute to the general welfare and prosperity of the family while health permits her to do so and should she be married that he shall pay t her the sum of Forty dollars. I also bequeath to her all capital stock I own in the Pictou Bank, Pictou with all interest arising thereon.

Sixth. I also direct that my said son Duncan David Sutherland shall pay to my Daughter Elizabeth Campbell wife of Donald Campbell and my three sons viz. John, Charles, and Angus William the sum of forty dollars each at such time ash shall be convenient for him to do so.

Seventh. I also direct that my said son Duncan David Sutherland shall cause my grandson Charles Arthur Sutherland to be properly educated while he is permitted to remain with him and that she shall pay to him when he comes of lawful age the sum of forty dollars. Providing however tat should the said Charles Arthur Sutherland die before arriving at the age of twenty one years, the said amount shall revert back to my estate.

Eighth. I also bequeath to my said son Duncan David all the residue of my estate.

I also direct that my wife Isabell Sutherland shall be Executrix and David McKay and my son John Sutherland Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me.

In witness whereof I the Testator have hereunto set my hand and Seal this twenty fourth day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and Eighty six.

McLeod Registrar of said Court do hereby certify that the foregoing paper writing is a true copy of the last Will and Testament of Angus Sutherland late of Plainfield in the County of Pictou Merchant deceased which said will was duly admitted to Probate in said Court at Pictou on the 10th. day of April 1907.
