Estate of James Simpson late of French River, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
By the Grace of God, Amen -
I James Simpson of French River in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, Farmer, realizing the uncertainty of life and being of feeble health but of sound mind memory and judgement, do hereby make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit –
First my will is that my Just debts and funeral expenses shall by my executors hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be found convenient.
Second, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Annie Bell wife of Laefytte Thomson, the sum of twenty dollars Canada currency.
Third, I give devise and bequeath unto Dora Ann my beloved daughter wife of William W. Bond the sum of twenty dollars Canada currency.
Fourth. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved sons David and Robert Simpson a lot of land deeded to me by my brother David Simpson containing twenty five acres more or less (known as the Mill lot) the eastern half to the said David and Robert Simpson shall erect or cause to be erected a monument or tombstones with inscriptions to myself my wife & daughter Christy Jane deceased, Provided always that if the said David and Robert Simpson refuse or neglect to erect or cause ot be erected a monument or tombstones as aforementioned within nine months after my decease my executors hereinafter named shall forthwith proceed to sell said lot of land and erect tombstones with the proceeds, the balance if any to be divided between the said David Simpson and Robert Simpson my Sons their heirs and assigns forever.
Fifth, I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Janet S. wife of Thomas Robson twenty acres of the Southern half of the farm lot on which I now reside bounded on the South by lands belonging to John Fraser, to the said Janet S. my daughter her heirs and assigns.
Sixth. I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Margaret Catherine Simpson the remainder of the farm lot on which I now reside including the dwelling house Barns Outhouses Orchard and household furniture and all my estate not previously mentioned or named To my said daughter Margaret Catherine Simpson her heirs and assigns – all former bequests to be first settled.
I appoint David Simpson my son of French River Farmer and John D. Fraser Farmer of the same place, executors to this my Will.
In witness whereof I have Signed and Sealed and published this instrument as my last Will hereby revoking all former wills, at French River on the thirty first day of March on the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eighty eight.

The said James Simpson at said French River on the said thirty first day of March on the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eighty eight Signed and Sealed this instrument and published and declared the same for his last Will, and at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of James Simpson late of French River, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 30th. day of June t A.D. 1888.
