Estate of Andrew Simpson late of Merigomish, Farmer, deceased, Testate

Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

In the name of God, Amen.

I Andrew Simpson, Farmer of Merigomish, County of Pictou, Province of Nova Scotia, Dominion of Canada. Being sound in mind memory and understanding do make this my Last Will and Testament, in the manner and form following,

  1. I order and Direct the hereinafter named Executors to pay all my just debts and Funeral Expenses out of my personal property.
  2. I devise and bequeath to my son Andrew Matthew the farm on which I reside with the two Horses and all farming utensils, Andrew Matthew aforesaid to have & hold all the land and Building on the North side of the High Road, and the part of the land lying to the south of the Railway as his share. Ann Brown or Simpson relict of Daniel Simpson, my son, to have that part of the land and house thereon, on the South of the High Road and running south until it reaches the Railway before mentioned during her lifetime & afterwards to the heir or heirs of the said late Daniel Simpson, also two cows and half of the sheep to the aforesaid Andrew Matthew Simpson with $200 Dollars cash.
  3. I devise and bequeath to my wife Jane Simpson the two front rooms of the dwelling House, and the half of the garden, the Horse and carriage, the horned cattle and half the sheep. All the Household Furniture and All the cash that lawfully belongs to me, after all counting out expenses have been paid. My wife Jane Simpson aforesaid is to be maintained on the farm by the aforesaid Andrew Matthew Simpson and do have two cows for her sole use. All the aforesaid property in this section to belong to my son Andrew Matthew Simpson aforesaid at the decease of the aforesaid Jane Simpson my wife.
  4. I devise and bequeath to my Daughters Catherine and Agnes Simpson, To each Severally and respectively, the sum of Four Hundred($400.00) Dollars C, To Each, one cow, and the use of my wife's part of the house so long as they remain unmarried. They themselves and their cows to have the right of maintenance by the aforesaid Andrew Matthew Simpson. This so far excludes Agnes Simpson who has already received her cow.
  5. I devise and bequeath to my daughter Jennet Simpson or Stewart, One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars cash.
  6. I devise and bequeath to my son the Reverend Isaac Simpson, Upper Musquodoboit, One Hundred ($100.00) cash.
  7. I devise and bequeath to my son Charles Simpson Three Hundred ($300.00) Dollars, already received by him as his share of my Last Will and Testament, without any further claim.
  8. I devise and bequeath to my granddaughter Agnes Jane Copeland, One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars cash, the right to a home and maintenance in my house so long as she remains unmarried.
  9. I appoint as my executors my wife Jane Simpson aforesaid and my son the Reverend Isaac Simpson aforesaid whom I order and direct to have this my last will and testament legally executed.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Andrew Simpson late of Merigomish, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
