Estate of Edward Paterson late of Merigomish, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
Know all men by these present that I Edward Patterson famer, of Ponds, Merigomish in the County of Pictou, Province of Nova Scotia, being of sound disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament as follows -
First – I will and bequeath to my wife Hannah the farm on which I now reside together with the house and barn and all other buildings or outhouses thereon, also all my household furniture of every kind, also all the stock, including horses, cattle and sheep, also all farming implements of every kind, also all harness, horse tackling, and all other property of whatever kind it may be, that I may own at the time of my death, for her sole use and benefit during her natural life.
Second – On the death of my wife Hannah I will and bequeath all the above mentioned property or whatever part if it may be remaining to my daughter Sarah Jane for her sole use and benefit.
Lastly, I do hereby appoint John Thompson, Blacksmith, of this place and George Murray, Medical Doctor, of New Glasgow, Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Fourteenth day of November, One Thousand eight hundred and Seventy Six.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one page, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Edward Patterson, late of Merigomish in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 9th. day of July A.D. 1889.

Edward Patterson was the son of George Patterson and Mary Gayton Olding. George, his father, born Pictou, Aug 21 1772, was the son of Squire Robert and Sarah Patterson who arrived from Philadelphia in 1767, on the ship Betsy. Hannah was Edwards 2nd wife. Both buried Murray Point Cemetery. Merigomish. They had a daughter Sarah who married Charles Hinds. Margaret (MacDonald ?)was Edward's first wife, dying on March 5 1848, aged 45, whose obituary is recorded in the Eastern Chronicle Newspaper, dated March 24 1848.(1800-1850 Vol 4 ) Burial unknown.
