Estate of Alexander Murray late of West Branch River John, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
In the name of God, Amen.
I Alexander Murray Elder of the West Branch of River John County of Pictou being in good health and of sound mind and memory of body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and testament. That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I commend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estates, wherewith God has pleased to bless me with in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
First I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved Marrian my beloved wife if she survives me all the House that we now live in and are occupying it ourselves and all the Household furniture and the Cellar and the garden before the House and two cows and six sheep, five of the said sheep to be pastured and wintered by my son Andrew, yearly, also the two cows to be pastured and wintered yearly during my wife's natural life if she survives me by my son Andrew also for her maintenances yearly she is to get two hundred and fifty weight of Flour, and two Hundred and fifty weight of Oatmeal, and fifty weight of Buckwheat flour and one Hundred weight of Beef and one Hundred weight of Pork and Eight pounds of tea and Twenty five pounds of Sugar, and two gallons of Molasses and one Bushel of Salt and fifty pounds of Oatmeal Bran and twenty five Bushels of Potatoes, the above portions for her maintenance to be given her yearly during her natural life by my son Andrew, also she is the have the use of six hens for her own uuse, during her natural life, also she is to get a sufficient quantity of firewood to be hauled and cut at the door enough to keep one fireplace going during her natural life, also she is to be taken to Church in a carriage when she is able to go, or wants to go, or to visit any of her friends, all these conditions to be fulfilled by my son Andrew, and what money there will be after my death, there will be Forty dollars kept of said money by my Executors for to put a headstone on myself and on my beloved wife Marrian, and the balance of money that will be left after the Forty Dollars are taken out shall be given to my beloved wife Marrian and to use it for her own use as she thinsk proper.
Second, I give and bequeath to my son John one Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Third, I give and bequeath to my son Adam one Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Fourth, I give and bequeath to my son George one Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Fifth, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Jannet one Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors also a piece of land commencing at William Berry's East Corner and running West along said Berry's land to the west corner of said Berry's land and are to run four rods past Berry's corner to a stake and stone from thence running a straight line North to Donald McKay's and to where the two Brooks meets from thence to the main road from thence running South along said Main road to Berry's East Corner.
sixth, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann One Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Seventh, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary One Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Eighth, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Margret One Dollar currency to be paid to her out of my Estate by my Executors.
Ninth, I give and bequeath to my son Robert One Dollar currency to be paid to him out of my Estate by my Executors.
Tenth, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hellen One Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors.
Eleventh, I give and bequeath to my son Andrew One Dollar currency to be paid out of my Estate by my Executors also all the real and personal property that I own and is in my possession of which I excerpt the piece of land bequeathed to my daughter Jannet and the two cows and six sheep left to my wife Marriam which she can dispose of them herself as she thinks proper.
I also constitute and ordain James McKay Esquire of Earltown County of Colchester and John Murray my son to be my Executor and do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills Legacies bequeaths and Testaments by me in any wise before names willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto my hand and Seal Set this twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord 0ne thousand eight hundred and eighty two.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of three pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Alexander Murray late of the West Branch River John in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 31st. day of August A.D. 1883.
