Certified Copy of Will for Reg of Deeds Pictou

THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of the undersigned William Morton, of Andersons Mountain in the County of Pictou, Farmer.

I, the said William Morton, do hereby direct that all my just debts and funeral and Testamentary expenses be paid by my executors, hereinafter named, out of my estate, as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

First: I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Henrietta Morton, in lieu of dower, one-third of all my personal estate in addition to the dower or thirds allowed her by law in my real estate.

Second: I give, devise and bequeath to my son William Alexander Morton, Three Hundred Dollars; to my daughter Catherine Campbell Reid, wife of Alexander G. Reid of Reidville in the County of Pictou, Three Hundred Dollars, and to my daughter Agnes Elizabeth Clish, wife of William Clish of new Glasgow in said County, Three Hundred Dollars; the said legacies to be payable to my said son William Alexander and to my said daughters Catherine Campbell ad Agnes Elizabeth by my said executors at the expitation of eighteen months after my decease.

Third: The whole residue of my estate, both real and personal, including the farm on which I now reside at Andersons Mountain in the County of Pictou, subject, however, to my wife’s dower as aforesaid, I give, devise and bequeath to my son Charles Grant Morton and his heirs forever.

It is my earnest desire that my said son Charles grant Morton, when he comes to years of maturity, should devote himself to farming, and live on the said farm and maintain it in its present state of cultivation during his lifetime.

I hereby appoint my said beloved wife Henrietta Morton Executrix, and John H. Sinclair of New Glasgow in the County of Pictou, barrister, Executor of this my last Will.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of December A.D., 1898. and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.

This is a Codicil to the last will and testament of me William Morton above named, which will bears date December 10th. 1898.

Whereas by my said will I bequeathed the sum of three hundred dollars to my son William Alexander Morton and whereas my said son had departed this life leaving a son surviving him now therefore my will is that the said bequest to my said deceased son be cancelled and I do hereby give and bequeath the said sum of three hundred dollars to my said grandson William Archibald McMillan Morton for his own use an in all other respects I confirm my said Will.

Signed, sealed, published and declared this third day of December A.D., 1904, by the above named William Morton, the testator, as and for a codicil to his last Will and Testament, in the presence of us both present at the same time who, at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the word’s “a codicil to” having been first interlined above.
