Estate of Joseph E. McPherson late of Pictou, deceased, Testate

Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

This is the last Will and Testament of me Joseph Edward McPherson, of Pictou, lately a chief Trader in the Honorable Hudson’s Bay Company.

After payment of all my just debts and charges I dispose of my estate as follows

I give devise and bequeath all real estate and all personal estate of which I shall be possessed either at law or in equity at the time of my decease to my wife Mary Fletcher McPherson (except the devises hereinafter mentioned) To Have and To Hold the same unto the said Mary Fletcher McPherson her heirs and assigns for her use and benefit and for the use and benefit of my children Murdoch, Maria, Donald, Margaret, William, and Alexander.

I give devise and bequeath unto John Grierson Superintendent of The Industrial School at Halifax and his heirs the sum of Four hundred Dollars upon trust for my son Richard Edward McPherson to be applied by the said John Grierson in whatever manner and at whatever time or times as to him shall appear most for the benefit and advantage of my said son, and should the said Richard Edward McPherson die without lawful issue, and while any of said trust money shall remain in the hands of the said John Grierson or his heirs I give and devise the same to my said wife Mary Fletcher McPherson her heirs and assigns forever.

I give devise and bequeath to Hannah McKay who has for some years past been a faithful servant in my house, should she be living at the time of my decease, the sum of Two hundred dollars.

I nominate John Yorston, esquire and Isaac A. Grant Merchant both of Pictou Executors of this my Will.

In witness whereof I have hereto my hand and Seal subscribed and Set this sixteenth day of January, One Thousand eight hundred and Seventy three.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Joseph Edward McPherson, late of Pictou in the County of Pictou, Esquire, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 31st. day of March A.D. 1880.
