Estate of John McPherson late of New Glasgow, Stone Cutter, deceased, Testate

Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

I John McPherson of New Glasgow, in the County of Pictou, Stone Cutter, do make this my last Will and testament.

1St. I give devise and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Bell Allan and Maggie McPherson equally my house, workshop, and lots of land on the corner of Marsh and James Streets New Glasgow, together with my household furniture, furnishings, bedding, carpets, mats, pictures, fixtures, fittings and utensils.

2nd. I give devise and bequeath unto my son Alexander McPherson, my stone quarry at Eight Mile Brook containing ten acres together with all the rest and residue of my Estate real and personal subject to and upon the condition that he pays the following debts and bequests and I order and direct that the said debts and bequests be a charge upon the quarry or assumed and paid by my said son in the order in which they are herein stated.

First any balance of the debt due to Angus Matheson and Alexander Morrison and all other debts incurred for labor at the quarry and all other debts except the mortgage on my house.

Secondly, ten dollars each to my four grandchildren John McPherson, Maggie McPherson, Annie McPherson, and Roderick McPherson, to be paid to themselves personally, not to be allowed to come to the hands or control of their father.

Thirdly, to pay ten dollars each to my three grandchildren Lizzie Russell, Mary Bell Russell, and Maggie Russell.

Fourth, to pay One hundred dollars to my daughter Irna Gordon.

Fifthly, To pay ten dollars each to my grandchildren Alexander Allan and John Allan.

I order and direct that the said several bequests be paid by my said son Alexander in the order mentioned, and as soon as he can without crippling his business.

I nominate and appoint my said son Alexander McPherson and my daughter Maggie McPherson.

Dated at New Glasgow this thirtieth (30th.) day of October A.D. 1896.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one page & part of a page, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of John McPherson, late of New Glasgow in the County of Pictou, Stone Cutter, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
