Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

Know all men by these presents that I, John McLeod of Saltsprings, in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, Farmer, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last Will and testament.

1St. I give and bequeath to my son John all my right and title to that lot of land with the buildings thereon, Situated and bounded as follows, on the South by the public road, on the west and north by land already owned and occupied by my son Robert, and on the east by land owned  and occupied by Alexander McKenzie, containing 1 1/2 acres of land, more or less, to have and to hold the same premises for himself and his heirs forever.

2nd.  I give and bequeath to my son John all my right and title to that lot of land with the buildings thereon, Situated and bounded as follows, on the by the public road, on the west by land owned by my son Robert, on the South by land owned by John R. Bell, and on the east by land owned by Alexander McKenzie, containing eight acres  more or less, to have and to hold for himself and his heirs forever.

3rd. I give and bequeath to my son John all my right and title to that lot of land, bounded on one side by the old post road, then by land belonging to widow McLeod, then by land owned by my son Robert, containing thirty nine acres more or less, to have and to hold for himself and his heirs forever.

4th. I give and bequeath to my son John all my right and title to the business conducted  at Salt Springs under the firm of J. & J. McLeod.

5th. I give to my daughter Mary Ann the Bureau, and Spinning wheel which are in the house in which I at present reside.

6th. I give and bequeath to my wife Mary, three hundred dollars $300.00 the same being at present deposited in a Branch of the Dominion Saving Bank in Pictou, to be paid to her within six months after my decease.

7th. I give and bequeath to my wife Mary, my two cows and three sheep.

8th. I require my son John to give to my wife Mary a suitable maintenance in the house with himself during the natural period of her life, or if this should in course of time, prove unsatisfactory to her, that my son John shall then give her the following yearly portion during the term of her life, viz. 1 Bhl. flour, 1 cut meal, 75 lbs. beef, 25 lbs. pork, 20 bushels potatoes, 12lbs. tea, 40 lbs. of sugar, and 5 gals. molasses, and also that he giver her for her Sole and separate use the room which she and I at present occupy for a a bedroom, and the adjoining front room, and to provide her with a sufficient quantity of fuel.

9th. I ordain and appoint Charles Stewart of Mount Thom & Robert McLeod of Saltsprings as Executors of this my last Will and testament.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal and published and declared this to be my  last Will and testament, in the presence of the witnesses named blow, this 18th. day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eighty three.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of John McLeod, late of Saltsprings in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
