Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

In the name of God, Amen.

I George McLeod of Middle River, in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, being now weak and inform of body but of good and perfect memory and knowing the uncertainty of time do make and ordain this as my last Will and Testament.

First and principally I earnestly recommend my Soul to God who gave it, and my body I commit to the earth, to be buried with a decent Christian burial, believing the same shall rise again at the General Judgement.

And as touching such worldly estates and effects as pleased God to bless me with, I give devise and bequeath in the manner following.

I give devise and bequeath to Nancy McLeod my dear and loving wife for maintenance during her natural lifetime, ten bushels of wheat, thirty bushels of oats, twenty bushels of Potatoes, and four bushels of barley, to be given her yearly and each year, also two cows, two heifers, and six sheep, to be kept for her sole use, and benefit, both summer and winter, to above to be raised and maintained without any labor on her part.

Likewise she is to have and to occupy the one half of my dwelling house, and one half of all the furniture, beds and bedding included, and to have the use of a horse and carriage when she requires it, for her business or pleasure. Also a servant girl to be kept to her and when required. She is to be provided with proper fuel summer and winter, during her natural lifetime.

Further, I give devise and bequeath to said Nancy McLeod four Hundred dollars, and she has by these presents full power previous to her demise to give or will the before mentioned stock, furniture and money she may then have to any person or persons she desires, the before mentioned property to be raised of my Estate and Chattels and given to her by my executors hereafter mentioned.

I give devise and bequeath to Margaret McLeod my daughter four Hundred dollars.

I give devise and bequeath to Elizabeth McLeod my daughter four Hundred dollars.

I give devise and bequeath to Anne McLeod my daughter four Hundred dollars.

I give devise and bequeath to George McEwen my grandson Sixty dollars, and to James McEwen forty dollars to Robert McEwen forty dollars, and to Ellen McEwen forty dollars.

I give devise and bequeath to Mary E. McKenzie my granddaughter fifty dollars, and to Colina McKenzie fifty dollars, and to Georgina McKenzie Eighty dollars.

I give devise and bequeath to William McLeod my oldest son the farm on which I reside, situated on the west side of Middle River, and bounded on the East by the said Middle River, on the South by lands of Donald Murray Jnr. On the west by lands of said William McLeod, containing one hundred and Eighty acres more or lefs, together with all the improvements and stock, which now is or may be on said farm, and all farming utensils and gear thereto belonging, (excepting what is previously mentioned).

After the foregoing bequests may accrue from outstanding debt or otherwise be equally divided between William McLeod my son, Margaret McLeod, Elizabeth McLeod, an Anne McLeod, my daughters.

This is to render null and void any will or Testament by me heretofore made, and

I hereby nominate William McLeod my son and Donald McLeod my nephew Sole Executors and Administrators of this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affix my Seal this eighteenth day of June in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and Eighty one.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two and a half pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of George McLeod, late of the Middle River in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
