Estate of John McKenzie late of Four Mile Brook, Farmer, deceased, Testate

Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

In the name of God, Amen. I John McKenzie of Four Mile brook, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, do hereby make my last Will and Testament, commending my Soul to Almighty God, and my body to the grave to be buried with decent Christian burial.

Firstly. I will and bequeath to my wife Margaret during her lifetime the Sole use of my farm, dwelling house, barn, furniture, and all other property – real and personal belonging to me. She shall have Sole and entire control of all my property during her natural life.

Secondly. I will bequeath and devise to my Grandson John James McKenzie, Daniel’s son, all my land, and he shall not get possession of the same until the death of my wife, I also will to him all other property that may remain at the death of my wife, and in the event of the said John McKenzie dying before reaching the age of twenty one years and other property shall go to my Grandson Roderick Pollock McKenzie.

My wife is to dispose of her bed and bedding and her personal apparel as she may see proper to do.

My executors are hereby directed to place over my grave a monument of stone about five feet high with an inscription thereon.

I appoint William McKay, Dalhousie, and Alexander McLennan, Roger’s Hill, farmers to be the Executors of this my last Will and testament, along with James William Fraser, Scotsburn.

In Token whereof I have hereunto my hand Seal affixed and set this twenty fourth day of March A.D. 1886.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one page, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of John McKenzie, late of Four Mile Brook, County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 28th. day of November A.D. 1887.
