The late John Sutherland and his wife Euphemia Graham, and family immigrated from Sutherlandshire, Scotland to this country in the year 1903, and settled at what is now known as Plainfield on the farm at present occupied by D. Wilbert Ross. He had two sons, Angus who married Isabel McKay settled on an adjoining farm where his grandsons John R and Charles A now live. He had five sons, John, Charles, Alex R., Angus and Duncan D. and two daughters Elizabeth who married Donald Campbell and Euphemia, spinster. John, Charles and Alex R. did business in Halifax. Angus settled in Arkansas and Duncan D. remained on the farm with his father. He married a daughter of the late John McKenzie of River John and had two children, Isobel (Mrs. Elmer Gammon) and John R. who married Dorothy Hayman of Waughs River. The other son of John Sutherland was Rev. Alexander who preached for a number of years at Scotsburn and Earltown and then moved to Nebraska with a number of immigrants from Pictou County and later returned to Ripley, Ontario where he died. His wife was a Miss Ross from Bay View.
