Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

In the name of God Amen. I Roderick McKay of Cariboo, County of Pictou Province of Nova Scotia, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, Do make and ordain this my last Will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and commend my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in a decent Christina burial, at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate, wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

First, I give and bequeath to my well beloved son William McKay all my lands, houses and barns, stock, implements for farm, monies, debts, i.e. to be by him my said son possessed and enjoyed forever,

Out of this property I give and devise to my beloved wife Barbara McKay an abundant home in this my dwelling place, a comfortable living, two cows, three sheep and six hens, to be possessed by her while she lives and no longer, when there shall fall over to the heirs of this instrument. But if my beloved daughter Barbara McKay shall survive her, my beloved wife, then she my said daughter shall become heir to these cows and sheeps, while she lives and no longer, when as above stated these shall revert to the Heir of this instrument.

Out of this my said property I give and bequeath to my well beloved son John Ives McKay one horse ( a mare) and one buggy to be by himenjoyed and possessed forever. I exclude all the rest of my family from my property with the exception of one shilling stirling.

I constitute make and ordain Dan Grant and Geddie Redpath to be my Sole executors of this my last Will and Testament, and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all other former testaments, Wills, legacies, bequests, and executors, by me in any wise before named, willed, and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this tenth day of November in the year of our lord, One thousand Eight hundred and ninety six.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one page and a half pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Roderick McKay late of Cariboo in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 14th. day of January A.D. 1897.
