Certified Copy of Will for Reg of Deeds

I, Margaret McKay of New Glasgow, in the County of Pictou, and Province of Nova Scotia “Spinster”’ hereby make publish and declare this my last Will and testament;

I give, devise and bequeath my Estate and property, Real and Personal as follows, that is to say.

1st. To my Sister Mary Catherine McKay now residing in the United States, Whatever Bonds of the Nova Scotia Steel & Coal Company “Limited” of which I may be owner, the par value at present being about Five Hundred Dollars, together with all interest that may be due therein at the time of my decease.

2nd. To my Sister Annie, the Wife of Stewart Fraser, I give and bequeath, Whatever preferred or other Shares of Stock in the Nova Scotia Steel & Coal Company “Limited” of which I may be Owner, the par Value at present being about Three Hundred Dollars, together with all interest that my be due thereon at the time of my decease.

3rd. I, having loaned some time ago, the Sum of One Hundred Dollars to my Niece Maggie Fraser, my Sister Annie’s Daughter; and also I have loaned to William Fraser, my Sister Annie’s Son, the sum of One Hundred and twenty Dollars.

And also, I have loaned to my Sister Annie the sum of One Hundred Dollars: - my will therefore in reference to these three aforesaid loans and sums of money, is that they and each of these three persons, Maggie Fraser, William Fraser, and Annie Fraser, are, and to be allowed to keep and retain the aforesaid sums of money, to their own use and benefit, and that they and each of them, be not required to pay the same or any part thereof either interest or principal in to my estate.

4th. A Lot or parcel of Land adjoining McKay the painters Lands, I give devise and bequeath to my brother Norman McKay, absolutely, and for his own use and benefit.

5th. My interest in the homestead, “i.e.” the Stone House and garden attached thereto, I give, devise and bequeath to my Sister Annie, for and during the term of her natural life, and at her death to become absolutely the property of my Niece Maggie Fraser, my Sister Annie’s Daughter.

6th. Whatever money I may have in the Dominion Government Savings Bank, at present about Three Hundred and Seventy five Dollars or other monies elsewhere, I desire my Executors out of Such monies to pay all necessary Expenses attendant on my demise, and to divide the remaining amount into equal shares and to pay One Share each to my Sisters Annie Fraser and Christina Sarle.

7th. The two lots of land Situate near Fraser Marshall’s and all the other remaining lots of land wherever situate I give, devise and bequeath to my brother Norman and mu Sisters Mary Catherine and Annie Fraser Share and Share alike.

And to the Executors of this my last Will I hereby name and appoint my brother Norman McKay and George A. Douglas, “Merchant” of New Glasgow.

The said Margaret McKay at New Glasgow on this twenty-fifth day of June, A.D. 1909, Signed, Sealed and executed this instrument, and declared the same as her last Will and we at her request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses.

McLeod Registrar of said Court do hereby certify that the within paper typed writing is a true copy of the last Will and Testament of Margaret McKay late of new Glasgow in the County of Pictou Spinster deceased which said will was duly admitted to Probate in said Court at Pictou on the 25th. day of May 1911.
