Estate of John McKay late of Barney’s River, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
I John McKay of Barney’s River in the County of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.
First I commend my Soul to Almighty God trusting in the merits of his son Jesus Christ for Salvation and I direct that my body be decently interred in the place of public burial, and as to such worldly wealth or estate as it has pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows
First I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible, also I direct that the sum of one quarter dollar be paid to my son Gordon B. McKay, a like sum of one quarter Dollar to be paid to my son Hugh McKay, also I direct that one quarter Dollar be paid to my daughter Isabella Isabell, one quarter Dollar to be paid to my Daughter Ann, and quarter Dollar to be paid to the heirs of my Daughter Willina, deceased, and that a like sum be paid to my Son Donald in addition to the share of land already granted him.
I direct also that the house and land shall belong to my beloved wife Isabella, and my two daughters Margaret and Joanna, that my wife shall have the half of the house, and the third of the land during her natural life, and after her death the house and all the land consisting of two hundred acres more or less,shall belong exclusively to my two younger daughters Margaret and Joanna,
That my wife shall have the mare and the riding waggon, and my two daughters shall have the horse, and the other waggon, I also direct that the sheep and cattle and other moveables shall belong to my wife and two daughters, Margaret and Joanna, to be held by them in common.
Finally I do make and ordain my beloved son Donald MacKay and my beloved brother R. MacKay, Executors of this my last Will and Testamant.
In witness whereof I John McKay the testator have to this my last Will written on two pages of letter paper set my hand and Seal this tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eighty four.

In the Court of Probate of Wills
I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one and a quarter pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of John McKay late of Barney’s River in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 29th. day of May A.D. 1885.
