Estate of James McKay late of Barney’s River, Farmer, deceased, Testate
Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds
I James McKay of Barney’s River in the County of Pictou Township of Maxwellton & Province of Nova Scotia, Farmer, being at present in an infirm state of bodily health, but of sound mind and in full possession of all my mental powers, and knowing the uncertainty of life & and duty of “Setting my House in order” do make this my last Will and Testament hereby & herein disposing of certain of my worldly goods as follows viz. –
First, to my beloved wife Jenny McKay I give devise & bequeath two milk cows, six sheep & one half of the poultry on the Farm. Also one third of the yearly produce of the Farm in grain potatoes & other vegetables, a & as much hay as will feed the cows & six sheep
Also one half of the house during the term of her natural life together with one half of the beds bedding & household furniture.
Second, To my son George W. McKay all the land & real estate which I now possess, also all he farming implements and all the Farm stock viz horses, cattle, and sheep, with the exception of two cows & six sheep already disposed of,
Also all the outstanding debs due to me by Book Accounts, notes of hand or otherwise, also one half of the house, together with one half of the Beds, bedding & household furniture.
And the said George W. McKay shall not sell or dispose of the Land during the lifetime of his mother, and shall use all diligence in working and improving the Farm, so that all depending upon him may be provided for & be in a position pay all my lawful debts, which he is hereby required to do.
And in the event of the death of the said George W. McKay without male issue, the said land or real estate shall resort to & become the property of his brother Alexr. P. McKay.
Third, To each of my daughters viz – Margaret McKay, Elizabeth J. Walker, Jenny, Christina, Mary & Alice McKay one dolr, and to my sons James D. & Alexr. P. McKay one dollar each.
I do hereby acknowledge this as my last Will and Testament hereby disallowing and rendering null and void all other Testaments, Wills & Codicils by me heretofore made and confirming this as my Sole last Will and Testament.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of one page and a half pages, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of James McKay late of Barney’s River, in the County of Pictou, Farmer, deceased, Testate, which has been duly filed and admitted to Probate in accordance with the practice of the Court.
Given under my hand at Pictou this 24th. day of October A.D. 1890.
