Annie Lorrain, eldest daughter of John MacKay and Margaret Bell Skinner, died young at age 5 yrs & 6 months at Woburn MA of whooping cough. She was there visiting her grandmother Anne Bell Lorrain. This watercolour may have been painted in New Glasgow or in Woburn. At the time, before cameras were commonplace, itinerant artists painted portraits.
