Last Will & testament of John McDonald Sunny Brae, deceased, testate

Certified Copy for Reg of Deeds

Know all me by these present that I John McDonald Ship Carpenter of Sunny Brae in the County of Pictou being of sound mind do make and devise this my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows

I give and bequeath to my son Daniel K. all the land which comprises my farm adjoining the farm of my son the said Daniel K. containing one hundred and twenty five acres more or less.

I direct and declare it as my will that my wife Isabella shall during her life and at her pleasure rectify the part of the house which is at present occupied by her and me.

I direct and declare to be my will that my son the said Daniel K. shall maintain for the use of my wife Isabella during her life two cows and five sheep, the said cows and sheep to be maintained in proper manner, and I further direct that my son Daniel K. shall give to my wife Isabella each and every year during her life two barrels of good flour and thirty barrels of potatoes and I also direct that my son Daniel K. shall with horse and carriage take my wife Isabella to church every Sabbath day which she may wish to go.

I give and bequeath to my wife Isabella the riding waggon which I at present own.

I give and bequeath to my grandson John McDonald son of my son Daniel K. that farm or parcel of land of mine containing two hundred ten acres more or less and formerly belonging to the late Duncan McDonald Bree

I give and bequeath half of the saw mill which belongs to me to my two grandsons John and Fraser sons of my son Daniel K. in equal shares share and share alike.
I direct and declare it to be my will that my grandson the said John McDonald son of Daniel K. shall furnish my wife Isabella each year and every year during her life two hundred pounds of good oatmeal or rolled oats and that my grandsons the said John and Fraser McDonald shall provide for my wife Isabella such a supply of good wood ready prepared for use as she may require during her life.

I give and bequeath to my wife Isabella all the cows and other horned cattle of which I may be possessed at my death and any horse which I may own I bequeath to my son Daniel K.

I give and bequeath to each of my granddaughters Minnie and Cassie daughters of my son Daniel K. the sum of twenty dollars a piece

I give and bequeath to my granddaughters Kate Jannet daughter of John A McDonald the sum of forty dollars

I give and bequeath to my wife Isabella the remainder of all money of which I may be possessed at the time of my death for her use during her life to use as she may need it, and I direct and declare it to be my will that any and all money which remains at the death of my wife Isabella shall be divided equally among my three children Margaret, Catherine, and Daniel K. share and share alike.

I ordain and appoint Peter Stewart of Blanchard and my wife Isabella as the executors of this my Will and Testament.

Signed and sealed this twenty ninth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven

This is a codicil to the last will and testament of me John McDonald Ship Carpenter of Sunny Brae in the County of Pictou bearing the date the 29th day of July AD 1897.

The house and lot of land at the Village of Sunny Brae of which I became possessed since the date of my said will I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Isabella, my son Daniel K. my daughter Catherine now the wife of John A. McDonald and to my granddaughter Kate Jennet daughter of the said John A. McDonald and his wife Catherine share and share alike for their absolute use and benefit forever.

In witness whereof I the said John McDonald Ship Carpenter of Sunny Brae in the County of Pictou the Testator have to this codicil to my last will and testament set my hand and Seal this fifth day of August AD 1899.

McLeod Registrar of said Court do hereby certify that the foregoing paper writing is a true copy of the Will of John McDonald late of Sunny Brae in the County of Pictou Ship Carpenter deceased which said will was duly admitted to Probate in said Court at Pictou on the 12th day of March AD 1900.

Given under my hand at Pictou this 16th. day of March AD 1900.
