Estate of Ellen McDonald, late of New Lairg, Widow, deceased, Testate

Copy of Will for the Registrar of Deeds

In the name of God, Amen. I Ellen McDonald of New Lairg in the County of Pictou, and Province of Nova Scotia. Being at present weak and infirm of Body. But in the full possession of my intellectual faculties, and taking into consideration the shortness and uncertainty of human life, Do make and ordain this to be  my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say,

First and principally I earnestly recommend my Soul to God who gave it and my Body I commit to the earth to be buried in such decent manner at the discretion as my Executors hereinafter mentioned shall think fit, and as touching such worldly estate and effects as  God has been pleased to bless me with,  I give devise and bequeath the same in the manner and form following to wit,

I bequeath to George Murdoch of New Lairg who is now residing with me, Four Hundred Dollars with the interest accruing thereon when he arrives the full age of twenty one years, the money to be deposited in a Saving's Bank for safe keeping until the said George  Murdoch is twenty one years of age.

Provided always and be it understood that if the said George Murdoch dies before he is twenty one years of age, that the said Four Hundred Dollars reverts to my heirs. I also bequeath to the said George Murdoch one Cow.

I bequeath to Mary McDonald my deceased husband's Sister, one hundred dollars.

I bequeath to Daniel M. McDonald o West River, Fifty Dollars.

I bequeath to Jennie Fraser wife of Daniel Fraser New Gairloch Thirty dollars.

I bequeath to my Aunt Ann Fraser Widow of the late Kenneth Fraser, Mill Brook, Thirty dollars.

I bequeath to my Sister Margaret Murdoch one hundred dollars.

I bequeath to Jane McLeod widow of my deceased brother James B. McLeod one hundred and fifty dollars.

I bequeath to my niece Annie B. McLeod of Halifax Fifty dollars.

I bequeath to the Trustees of Saint Andrews Church New Gairloch in the County of Pictou and their successors in Office for the use and benefit of the congregation of said Church the interest of Forty dollars yearly - the said Forty dollars to be deposited in a Savings Bank for safe keeping and the interest to be paid to the said Trustees and their successors in office yearly.

I bequeath my household furniture to my sister Margaret Murdoch, Jane McLeod, Widow of the late James B. McLeod of New Lairg, Annie McLeod wife of Robert McLeod New Lairg, and Euphemia McLeod Widow of the late Angus McLeod of Halifax to be equally divided between them.

I bequeath to my Nephew James R. McLeod of New Lairg, All of my landed estate, and all my remaining personal property on condition that he the said James R. McLeod shall cause my epitaph to be inserted on my deceased husband's monument within six months after my decease., in good workmanlike manner,

and I do hereby nominate and appoint my esteemed friends Daniel Sutherland of New Lairg and James Fraser Merchant of Mill Brook joint executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making null and void all Wills and testaments by me made heretofore and Do declare this to be my last Will and Testament by which I further devise and bequeath that the abovementioned executors of this my last Will and testament shall be paid out of my said property such fee and reward as shall be lawful for their trouble and intromissions.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this eleventh day of May n the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety one.

I do hereby certify that the foregoing instrument consisting of two pages & part of a page, is an exact and literal copy of the last Will and Testament of Ellen McDonald late of New Lairg in the County of Pictou Widow  deceased, Testate, which said will  was duly admitted to Probate, in accordance with the practice of the Court. 

Witness my hand at Pictou this 2th  day of July A.D. 1891.
